According to an agreement that French Polynesia has signed, The world’s first floating city is set to appear in the Pacific Ocean off the island of Tahiti.
The government of French Polynesia signed this agreement with Seasteading Institute (which is based on Oakland, California).
According to the sources construction work will begin in just two years, if studies into the project can be completed by 2018.
This floating city is expected to cost about $167 million.
French Polynesia is a collection of 118 beautiful islands in the southern Pacific, is interested in the idea of floating cities as the area is at risk from rising sea levels caused by global warming.
Seasteading Institute has worked to establish independent city states in the open ocean since 2008. It created the Floating City Project in 2013.
